Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi affirmed Pakistan's commitment to the safety of Chinese citizens and projects, emphasizing that those responsible for the recent Karachi incident would face justice.
Naqvi made these remarks in a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong, who expressed his concerns over the security of Chinese nationals following an attack on two citizens in Karachi.
The incident, which took place at Liberty Textile Mills in Karachi’s SITE Industrial Area, involved a security guard who opened fire on two Chinese workers, injuring them before fleeing the scene.
The victims were immediately transported to a nearby hospital, and police have registered a case under terrorism charges against the fugitive guard, identified as an employee at the garment factory for around five months.
Minister Naqvi extended Pakistan’s solidarity with the families of the injured and assured the Chinese Ambassador of thorough investigative measures. The meeting also led to an agreement on strengthening security protocols and devising a joint strategy to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Minister Naqvi underscored that efforts to enhance the safety of Chinese nationals working on CPEC projects are ongoing, noting that Pakistan and China share a resilient "iron brotherhood" with a mutual commitment to integrating development and security.
In addition, Ambassador Jiang Zedong expressed appreciation for the security arrangements made during the Chinese Prime Minister's recent visit to Pakistan.
He stressed the importance of a stable environment for sustained cooperation between the two nations, highlighting China’s willingness to support Pakistan in further advancing bilateral security cooperation and enhancing institutional capacities to maintain a secure operational landscape.
