In the case of a devastating explosion near the Karachi airport signal that killed two foreigners and injured 17 others, including a foreigner, high-ranking police officials and foreign officials visited the crime spot to assess the situation.
The consular team visiting the site reviewed the evidence at the scene, while police officials briefed them on the details of the incident.
The authorities are treating the incident as a targeted attack. The injured are receiving treatment at Jinnah Hospital and other medical facilities, according to local officials.
Of the 17 injured, 13 were initially brought to Jinnah Hospital, where eight have since been discharged. Four patients remain under medical care, with three being treated in the neurosurgery ward and one in the orthopaedic ward, the hospital administration reported.
Attacker identity revealed
The security agencies have gathered the identity documents of the suspected attacker, including his record from NADRA. Initial investigations have revealed that the attacker, whose identity has been partially revealed by security agencies, was riding in a double-cabin vehicle, not in the previously suspected Mehran car.
The vehicle used in the blast was identified through its chassis number, and security sources confirmed that the terrorist was a resident of Balochistan. Authorities have also obtained NADRA records of the suspect and have traced the mobile SIMs used by the attacker.
Meanwhile, Pakistan issued a strong condemnation of the terrorist attack that killed two Chinese engineers and injured another near Karachi airport. In a statement by the Foreign Office, the spokesperson expressed deep sorrow over the brutal attack and extended condolences to the families of the victims, while praying for the recovery of the injured.
The Foreign Office emphasized that the act of terrorism is not just an assault on Pakistan but also on the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China.
The spokesperson vowed to bring all responsible, including the perpetrators from the Majeed Brigade, to justice, reaffirming that Pakistan's security and law enforcement agencies will not spare the planners or facilitators of this cowardly attack.
The Chinese Embassy and consulates general in Pakistan have launched an emergency plan immediately, requesting the Pakistani side to thoroughly investigate the attack, severely punish the perpetrators, and take all necessary measures to protect the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions and projects in Pakistan.
