The monsoon rains continue to lash various regions across Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, bringing both relief from the heat and disruptions to daily life.
In Lahore, intermittent rains have persisted, with clouds covering the city early in the morning. Light rain was reported around key areas, including Mall Road, Jail Road, and Dharampura.
The city’s weather turned cooler as winds began to blow, breaking the intense heat that had gripped Lahore. The Met Department has forecasted a 60% chance of rain in Lahore today.
However, the heavy rains have also caused problems, particularly affecting the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) transmission system. More than 10 feeders tripped, leading to prolonged power outages in several areas. The highest recorded rainfall was 25mm on Jail Road.
The rains also impacted the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, where heavy rainfall led to road slippage. The Motorway Police have issued warnings to drivers, advising them to drive carefully, avoid speeding, and maintain a greater distance from the vehicle in front.
Islamabad/Rawalpindi: In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, both light and heavy rains were reported in various areas, including Blue Area, Sector F-6, F-7, Bari Imam, Sector G-7, and G-9. The rainfall brought a significant drop in temperature, making the weather much more pleasant.
Mandi Bahauddin: The city and its surrounding areas experienced heavy rain, leading to a notable improvement in weather conditions.
Gujrat: Continuous heavy rain in Gujrat caused the GEPCO system to go down, resulting in several feeders being shut down.
Wazirabad: The city and its surroundings saw heavy rainfall, leading to water accumulation in low-lying areas and affecting traffic flow. Despite the challenges, the rain brought much-needed relief from the sweltering heat.
Jhelum: Similar conditions were reported in Jhelum, where ongoing rain reduced the intensity of the heat but caused traffic disruptions due to waterlogged roads.
Kamoke and Pindi Bhattian: Both cities experienced heavy rain accompanied by thunder, which broke the heat wave and turned the weather pleasant. However, Pindi Bhattian also reported the tripping of more than 20 power feeders.
Bhimber, Azad Kashmir: In Bhimber, Barnala, and Samahni areas of Azad Kashmir, heavy rains continued, making the weather pleasant and offering a much-needed respite from the heat.
The monsoon rains, while providing relief from the extreme heat, have also highlighted the vulnerability of the region's infrastructure, particularly in terms of power supply and road safety. Authorities are urging caution and preparedness as the rains are expected to continue.
