The Accountability Court of Islamabad on Friday extended Fawad Chaudhry’s physical remand for four more days in case regarding alleged corruption in construction projects in Jhelum.
The hearing, presided over by Judge Muhammad Bashir, saw Fawad joined by his mother and brother, Faraz Chaudhry, offering a glimpse of the personal impact of the ongoing case. A request for a family meeting was granted, allowing some solace amidst the legal complexities.
During the hearing, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor put forth a plea for an extended physical remand, citing suspicions arising from transactions in seven bank accounts linked to Fawad Chaudhry. The prosecution alleges that Chaudhry exerted influence in running the construction projects under investigation, and they seek to recover banking records from the accused.
Raja Aamir, the lawyer representing Fawad Chaudhry, countered the accusations. Aamir argued that government approval was evident in the project documents, emphasizing that no contracts were awarded personally to any contractor. He also brought up a case related to the purchase of land at a lower price, which had previously been dismissed by the High Court.
After thorough arguments, the court made the decision to extend Fawad Chaudhry’s physical remand for an additional four days. The case continues to unfold as both sides present their evidence and arguments in the pursuit of justice.
