The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of the risk of low to moderate flooding in hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, while seven major cities in Punjab, including Rawalpindi and Lahore, also face a similar flood threat.
The NDMA said that Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Bagh and Kotli face the risk of sudden low to moderate flooding, The authority has directed local administrations to move resources and rescue teams to vulnerable areas in advance.
The NDMA advised people to avoid crossing flood channels, rivers and waterlogged roads. Tourists and travellers were also urged to stay away from streams and riverbanks.
The risk of landslides and flash floods has increased in hilly areas, the authority said, warning people to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain or flood warnings.
Crossing fast-flowing water on foot or by vehicle could prove fatal, the NDMA warned. It also said the water level in rain-fed streams could rise suddenly and dangerously during the monsoon.
The NDMA also released the latest position of water reserves in the dams.
Water storage at Tarbela Dam has reached 97.94 per cent, with the water level standing at 1,548 feet. Last year, storage at Tarbela stood at 95.98 per cent.
Water storage at Mangla Dam was recorded at 62.99 per cent, compared with 62.80 per cent last year.
