Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Friday that Tehran was prepared for "full-scale defence" if the United States backed away from its commitments under the memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
Speaking amid continuing tensions with Washington, Ghalibaf said Iran would not surrender under pressure and was ready to defend its interests if the agreement collapsed.
"At any moment the Americans betray the understanding, we are ready for full-scale defence and will stand firm against them and defend the rights of the Iranian people," Ghalibaf said.
He said ending the conflict remained a priority for countries around the world but insisted that any resolution would not come through Iran's capitulation.
"Ending the war is a priority for the countries of the world, but everyone should know that this conflict will never end with Iran's surrender," he said.
Ghalibaf also called on Muslim countries to unite against the United States and Israel, saying the Islamic world should "stand up" in the face of continued pressure.
His remarks came as uncertainty persisted over the future of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran following renewed military tensions and diplomatic disputes.
