President Donald Trump said on Friday that Iran has asked the United States to continue talks, adding that Washington is ready for discussions with Tehran.
President Trump said Iran had been informed clearly that the ceasefire had ended. In a statement, President Trump said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue talks. We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the ceasefire is over.”
Mediator countries step up efforts to reduce tensions
Meanwhile, US media reported that mediator countries have stepped up efforts following rising tensions between the United States and Iran.
According to reports, no attack took place last night due to mediation efforts by Pakistan and Qatar. Axios reported that Pakistan and Qatar are working to restart negotiations between the two sides. The report said both parties had made notable progress towards a possible nuclear agreement during previous talks.
Trump wants reopening of Hormuz
The report added that President Trump wants the Strait of Hormuz to reopen and hopes to avoid a full-scale war.
Mediator countries are seeking to prevent the understanding between the two sides from failing completely, Axios reported.
Officials from Pakistan, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have contacted the United States as part of efforts to reduce tensions.
The telephone contacts aimed to lower tensions and create conditions for the resumption of negotiations.
