Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi appealed on Friday to the National Assembly speaker and the Senate chairman to immediately convene a joint meeting of the speakers of all four provincial assemblies to frame a uniform national policy on the salaries and benefits of lawmakers.
In a statement, Kundi said there should be a common national framework across Pakistan for the salaries, allowances, security, official passports and other benefits of members of the assemblies. He said the policy should ensure the same standards in all provinces.
He said no province should make laws granting exceptional benefits to its lawmakers. The governor said it was not acceptable to ask the public to practise austerity while elected representatives received additional benefits.
Uniform laws across centre will strengthen transparency
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) stalwart said a uniform law across the centre would strengthen transparency, accountability and public confidence.
