The Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Friday unanimously approved the Parliamentarians Salary and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which includes a proposal to issue blue passports to the dependent children of members of parliament.
The bill was approved during a meeting of the committee chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem-ur-Rehman.
Presenting the legislation, Senator Abdul Qadir said dependent children of senators and members of the National Assembly up to the age of 28 should be eligible for blue passports. He added that the existing law should be amended to facilitate the proposal.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry suggested referring the bill to the federal cabinet before proceeding further.
However, Senator Abdul Qadir argued that the legislation did not require cabinet approval. Following the discussion, the committee unanimously approved the bill.
During the meeting, Talal Chaudhry noted that decisions regarding blue and diplomatic passports could have implications for Pakistan's passport ranking and should therefore be considered carefully.
The bill will now move forward in the legislative process for further consideration.
