A Karachi court directed on Thursday that the inquiry be conducted by a DSP-rank officer and include all relevant civic and emergency authorities.
A judicial magistrate in Karachi has ordered a fresh investigation into the Gul Plaza tragedy after rejecting the police challan.
The order was issued on an application filed by Tanveer Pasta and other nominated accused. During the hearing, defence counsel Shaikh Jawaid Mir submitted that the investigation into the tragedy had been conducted inadequately and that the challan sought to shield government institutions.
Fresh investigation to be conducted by DSP-rank officer
The court directed that the investigation be conducted by an officer of DSP rank. It also ordered that the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Civil Defence, Traffic Police and rescue agencies be included in the inquiry.
It is pertinent to note that the prosecution had previously returned the challan twice after raising objections.
