Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to improve access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as part of efforts to strengthen domestic exports and accelerate economic growth.
The PM chaired a high-level review meeting on the performance and future strategy of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA).
During the meeting, the prime minister emphasized the critical role of SMEs in Pakistan’s economy and directed officials to take practical steps to support the sector.
The prime minister instructed relevant authorities to facilitate the provision of credit to small and medium-sized enterprises so they can expand their businesses and contribute to increasing Pakistan’s domestic exports.
He stressed that improving access to financing would help SMEs unlock their full potential and create new economic opportunities.
Support needed at every stage of business
Prime Minister Shehbaz directed SMEDA to provide comprehensive assistance to entrepreneurs, including support in preparing feasibility studies and guidance through other key stages of establishing and expanding businesses.
He said such facilitation would enable more entrepreneurs to successfully launch and sustain small and medium-sized industries.
The premier said urgent measures are needed to eliminate barriers hindering the growth and development of the SME sector. He also instructed SMEDA to extend special support to young entrepreneurs, including women, to encourage them to establish small and medium-sized businesses across the country.
SMEDA briefs meeting on reforms
During the meeting, SMEDA officials briefed the prime minister on various initiatives and measures being taken to facilitate small and medium-sized enterprises.
The briefing covered ongoing efforts aimed at improving services and creating a more supportive environment for SMEs.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister Musadik Malik, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar, and other senior government officials attended the meeting.
Chief secretaries of all four provinces, along with experts from the SME sector, also participated in the meeting through video link.
