The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought a report from the provincial government within two weeks over reports of HIV cases at a public hospital in Karachi.
HIV transmission allegations at SITE Area government hospital
The case concerns a government hospital in the SITE Area, where allegations of HIV transmission have been raised by affected families. Parents have moved the court, stating that reused syringes at the Valika hospital led to the spread of the infection.
Nine children dead; petitioners seek judicial intervention
It is stated that nine children have died in the reported incidents. The petitioners have said that no effective action has been taken, and have requested judicial intervention.
During the hearing, Justice Adnan Karim remarked that the court should be allowed to perform its duties, and that speeches may be made outside the courtroom. He further observed that conclusions would be reached after responses from all parties, in accordance with the law.
The court has adjourned the hearing until July 20 and directed the provincial government to submit its report within two weeks.
Following the hearing, the affected families staged a protest within the court premises, demanding action against those responsible.
