Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said that steps will be taken to carry out the proposal for a committee of sports journalists.
He was speaking at a ceremony held on the occasion of Sports Journalists Day in Rawalpindi. The event was organised by the Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA), where the newly elected body also took its oath.
SAPM Badar Shahbaz attended the ceremony. A cake was also cut to mark Sports Journalists Day.
The information minister said that sport holds a special place in his interest and that sports journalists play a key role in bringing sporting activity to the public. He stated that the Ministry of Information would continue cooperation with journalists in every possible manner.
Tarar expressed support for the proposal to form a committee of sports journalists and said that positive suggestions from journalists would be taken forward for action.
Pakistan Hockey Federation acting president Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani said sports journalists are 'important' partners in the promotion of hockey. He added that headlines following match days carry significant importance alongside team performance.
He said that when he assumed responsibility, the federation faced limited resources, but financial conditions have now improved. He said all funds are being spent transparently on the development of the sport.
