Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye has stated that he will not join the national squad while the current coaching set-up remains in place, following their exit from the World Cup on Wednesday.
Senegal surrendered a two-goal lead against Belgium before losing 3-2 after extra time in the round of 32. Gueye, 27, wrote on social media that he would return to speak about the elimination, but confirmed he would stay away from the national team as long as the present technical staff continues in its role.
He was taken off after around an hour of play, with coach Pape Thiaw replacing him with Lamine Camara in an attempt to preserve Senegal’s advantage.
Belgium struck twice in the final four minutes through Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans to level the match and force extra time.
The Belgian side completed their comeback when Tielemans converted a penalty, awarded after a VAR review for a foul by substitute Camara.
