Sony Interactive Entertainment has stated that all new games released on PlayStation consoles will thereafter be made available in digital formats only, as the consumer preferences continue to shift towards digital access.
From January 2028 onwards, new titles will be sold through the PlayStation Store and selected retailers in digital form, with physical discs no longer produced for future releases.
Earlier game releases
The company has clarified that games released before this date, as well as those scheduled for release in disc format prior to January 2028, will not be affected by the change.
Sony Interactive Entertainment prioritises digital media
Sony Interactive Entertainment has said the move reflects wider industry trends, with digital media increasingly preferred over physical discs by players.
The company added that it will continue to focus on innovation and maintain options for players to purchase and access games either through retailers or the PlayStation Store, while thanking users for their continued support.
