The Federal Board of Revenue failed to meet its original tax collection target for fiscal year 2025-26, facing a shortfall of Rs1,306 billion.
The original tax collection target for the previous fiscal year was Rs14,131 billion. However, the FBR could not achieve that goal and recorded a shortfall of Rs1,306 billion during FY2025-26.
Revised IMF-backed target achieved
Despite missing the original target, the tax authority achieved the revised tax revenue target of Rs12,957 billion. The government had revised the target with the consent of the International Monetary Fund.
The shortfall against the original target reflects continued pressure on revenue collection. However, meeting the revised IMF-backed target may help the government maintain compliance with agreed fiscal commitments.
