The Qatar's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that no high-level meeting has been scheduled between the United States and Iran.
Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Majed al-Ansari told a news briefing that no timetable had been agreed for a high-level meeting between the United States and Iran. He said Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were in Doha but would not hold direct talks with Iranian officials.
Majed al-Ansari said Witkoff and Kushner would meet the parties involved in mediation in Qatar. Discussions would also cover progress in negotiations with the US delegation.
Hormuz safe navigation priority
He said the issue of Iran's frozen funds remained linked to progress in negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of naval mines remained the highest priority. Qatar was in contact with Oman to ensure safe shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar-Oman hotline used
Majed al-Ansari said the hotline established for the Strait of Hormuz had been used to help contain the recent conflict. He welcomed France's involvement in removing naval mines from the waterway and said freedom of navigation was the right of all Gulf states. "Any closure of the Strait of Hormuz or threat to its security was unacceptable," he said.
He added that Iran's $6 billion in frozen funds had not yet been transferred to Tehran. Technical-level talks between Washington and Tehran had not ceased, and mediators were working to facilitate those discussions.
