Cricket will return to the Olympic Games after an absence of 128 years, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) announcing the qualification system for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Olympic cricket qualification criteria confirmed
The men's and women's competitions will each feature six teams. Australia, India, Great Britain and South Africa have already secured places in the women's tournament. The highest-ranked teams from Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania will qualify directly. Qualification for the men's event will be determined by the ICC Men's T20 International rankings as of 31 December 2026.
The remaining places will be decided through the ICC Olympic Qualifier in 2027. The United States men's or women's team must be ranked among the top 15 to qualify for the Olympic Games. The West Indies have not qualified automatically. The Caribbean representative will be decided through the qualifying tournament.
Each team will name a 15-player squad. A total of 28 matches will be played across the men's and women's competitions.
The cricket tournament at the Los Angeles Olympic Games will be played in the T20 format, the ICC said.
