The head of the United Nations maritime body has stated that a total of around 115 vessels and 2,500 seafarers have been evacuated from the Strait of Hormuz since Tuesday.
IMO suspends evacuation of 600 ships after Gulf of Oman attack
The International Maritime Organisation secretary-general, Arsenio Dominguez, gave the update after the body suspended its evacuation operations for around 600 ships and 11,000 sailors following an attack on a vessel in the Gulf of Oman.
'115 vessels in 3½ days, 2,500 seafarers clear Strait of Hormuz'
In an online press briefing, Dominguez stated that 115 vessels had left in the past three and a half days, representing about 2,500 seafarers who had safely cleared the Strait of Hormuz.
