US President Donald Trump said arrests of illegal immigrants during his presidency were higher than under any previous US president.
Posting on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said detention and deportation figures had reached record levels.
Many final deportation orders still pending in courts
Trump said many final deportation orders remain pending before the courts. He said the number of people deported over a 12-month period was higher than during any previous administration.
Trump also said the media and the Democratic Party were presenting misleading statistics.
He said comparisons between figures from the Obama administration and those of the current administration were not accurate. Trump said the figures cited for the Obama administration included hundreds of thousands of people who, according to him, never entered the United States.
He also claimed that, even using the same categories, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) removed more illegal immigrants during his presidency than under former president Barack Obama.
