An artificial intelligence-powered doll has become a source of companionship for an elderly woman in South Korea.
According to international media reports, 78-year-old Bang Chun-ja, who lives alone in a small apartment in South Korea, says she finds greater happiness spending time with an AI-powered doll than with family members or friends.
The report states that the AI-powered doll is more than a toy. It can hold conversations, play songs, remind users to take medication and eat meals, and provide emotional comfort through affectionate interaction.
According to the report, similar devices are being developed rapidly in various countries to assist elderly people living alone and those who have limited contact with family members.
Experts say that people who have experienced difficulties in life may, at times, find greater comfort in spending time with digital devices than in human relationships.
They cautioned that while digital devices can help reduce loneliness and provide emotional support, they cannot replace human beings.
Experts emphasised that such technology should be used as a supplement rather than as a substitute for relationships with family, friends and the wider community.
