Punjab has only five public toilets for transgender persons and 10 public toilets for disabled people across the province, according to a report submitted to the Lahore High Court.
The report was submitted by the Local Government Department secretary during the hearing of a petition seeking the construction of public toilets across Punjab.
Justice Raheel Kamran heard the petition filed by the Judicial Activism Panel regarding the availability and construction of public toilets in the province.
During the hearing, the local government secretary submitted a detailed report on public toilet facilities across Punjab.
Punjab has 1,420 public toilets
According to the report, there are currently 1,420 public toilets across Punjab. Out of these, 1,293 public toilets are functional, while 127 are inactive.
The report stated that Punjab has 672 public toilets for men and 568 public toilets for women.
However, only five public toilets are available for transgender persons across the province. The report further said there are only 10 public toilets for disabled people in Punjab.
