The Sindh cabinet has approved the provincial budget for the new fiscal year 2026-27 during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
The Sindh government will present the budget today, with major allocations proposed for development, education, irrigation, Thar coal infrastructure, district schemes and Karachi’s mega projects.

During the meeting, the cabinet approved the Sindh Budget 2026-27. Speaking on the occasion, Murad Ali Shah said the new year’s budget has taken care of every class.
Sindh's budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 is set to exceed Rs3.562 trillion, according to budget documents.
The provincial government has reduced the development budget by 29%, allocating more than Rs720 billion for development projects. The estimated total expenditure for the next fiscal year has been set at Rs2.142 trillion.
Major allocations include Rs620 billion for education, over Rs393 billion for health, Rs155 billion for local government and municipal services, and Rs41 billion for agriculture.
The budget also earmarks Rs222 billion for law and order, according to official documents.
Special focus on poverty and workers
The chief minister said special measures are being taken on the instructions of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to eradicate poverty.
Shah also said the Sindh government has made a decision regarding minimum wages for workers in the new budget.
Rs641bn for Sindh development programme
According to the budget document available with Samaa, more than Rs641.05 billion has been allocated for the Sindh Public Sector Development Programme.
Out of this, Rs256.05 billion has been allocated for development works. The government has also proposed Rs15 billion for district development schemes.
A total of 3,715 development schemes will be carried out across Sindh under the new budget. These schemes are expected to cover different sectors and districts, with a focus on infrastructure, public services and regional development.
Education gets major allocation
The Sindh government has proposed more than Rs50.12 billion for the education sector. Out of this amount, Rs38.21 billion has been proposed for school education.
The allocation reflects the government’s stated focus on strengthening education services across the province.
For irrigation schemes across Sindh, a total of Rs40.98 billion has been proposed in the budget. The government has also proposed allocating more than Rs10 billion for Thar coal infrastructure development schemes.
These allocations are aimed at improving water management and supporting energy-related infrastructure in the province.
Funds for livestock, fisheries, backward areas
The budget includes a proposal to allocate more than Rs6.17 billion for the development of livestock and fisheries. A total of Rs1 billion has been allocated to improve the socio-economic conditions of Katcha areas.
In addition, Rs250 million has been proposed for special schemes in backward districts of Sindh.
The Sindh government has also proposed special funds for mega projects in Karachi. These funds are expected to support major urban development initiatives in the provincial capital.
