US President Donald Trump has said that a deal with Iran is due to be signed tomorrow and that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen immediately after the agreement is concluded.
In a statement issued from Washington and posted on Truth Social, Trump said the agreement was scheduled for signature on the following day.
“The deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is open to all,” Trump said.
He stated that, once conditions were calm, action would be taken regarding Iran’s remaining nuclear material.
“At the appropriate time, when all is calm, we will go in and get the nuclear dust and downblend and destroy it, whether in Iran or the United States,” he said, referring to Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium.
Trump also said no money would change hands under the arrangement and expressed hope for closer relations with Iran and the wider Middle East.
The US president had earlier stated that negotiations between Washington and Tehran had entered a critical stage and that draft documents for a proposed agreement were nearing completion.
Iran rules out immediate talks in Geneva or Islamabad
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran had no plans at present to send its negotiating team to Geneva or Islamabad within the next two days to sign an agreement.
However, he said the possibility of a memorandum of understanding being signed in the coming days remained high, according to Iran’s IRNA news agency.
“We must wait for the exact time of the signing,” Baqaei said.
