Dubai Customs has foiled a major wildlife smuggling attempt after recovering 223 live wild animals from an abandoned suitcase at Dubai Airport.
According to officials, the animals concealed inside the suitcase included lizards, snakes, scorpions and frogs.
The animals were allegedly being transported illegally, but Dubai Customs seized them following timely action.
Dubai Customs said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to protect wildlife and combat the illegal trade in rare and endangered species.
Officials said the relevant authorities have been contacted to ensure the animals receive proper care.
