The federal government has allocated Rs389 billion for public order and safety affairs in the next fiscal year, according to budget documents, with major funding proposed for courts, police, civil armed forces and related administrative arrangements.
According to the budget document, Rs389 billion has been allocated for public order and safety matters in fiscal year 2026-27.
The allocation covers funding for courts, police, civil armed forces, prison arrangements, public order management and related safety functions.
Courts to receive Rs25.75bn
The budget of the courts has been increased by more than Rs4 billion for fiscal year 2026-27. According to the document, Rs25.75 billion has been allocated for courts in the next fiscal year.
Police, civil armed forces
A budget of Rs350.4 billion has been allocated for police and civil armed forces. The allocation represents the largest share within the public order and safety category.
The budget document shows Rs748 million has been allocated for fire protection. Another Rs187 million has been allocated for prison arrangements.
In addition, Rs12.27 billion has been set aside for public order arrangements in the next fiscal year.
Provincial transfers to increase
The budget document also shows that more than Rs642 billion will be additionally transferred from the federation to the provinces during the next fiscal year.
The share of the provinces is Rs642 billion higher than the original target set for the current fiscal year.
According to the document, the provinces’ share in the next fiscal year is Rs1,256 billion higher than the revised target for the current fiscal year.
Current year revised target
The revised target for transfers from the federation to the provinces during the current fiscal year stood at Rs7,591 billion. The new increase reflects a higher provincial share under the federal budget framework for 2026-27.
