Normal life has resumed in Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot and other parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), with educational institutions, businesses and social activities functioning as usual, according to the spokesperson for the AJK inspector general of police (IGP).
The police said law and order has been restored following recent unrest in Rawalakot, where violent elements allegedly linked to a prohibited Action Committee disrupted public order and laid siege to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalakot.
According to the AJK Police spokesperson, normal life is continuing in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Kashmir, as well as in other districts of the region. Educational institutions, commercial centers and social activities are operating as usual.
The spokesperson said the people of Muzaffarabad, like residents of other districts, rejected the so-called protest call and continued their daily routines.
Rawalakot returns to normal after unrest
Authorities said normal life has also resumed in Rawalakot. Educational, business and social activities are continuing as usual after law enforcement agencies restored order in the city.
The police spokesperson said that on the evening of June 7, violent and armed elements associated with the prohibited Action Committee attempted to disrupt the law and order situation in Rawalakot.
According to the police, armed individuals opened fire on law enforcement personnel and later laid siege to CMH Rawalakot. Officials said the blockade severely affected medical services and treatment activities at the hospital.
The spokesperson stated that armed miscreants also set fire to various locations and damaged both government and private property.
Security forces conduct targeted operation
Law enforcement agencies launched what the police described as a highly organized, targeted and limited operation during the night between June 7 and 8. The operation successfully lifted the siege of CMH Rawalakot and restored access to the hospital.
Authorities said the protection of citizens, patients, medical staff and government property remained the top priority throughout the operation.
The police confirmed that the hospital has been completely cleared and all medical services have resumed as normal.
Casualties reported during unrest
According to the IGP Police spokesperson, four law enforcement personnel have been martyred since June 6 due to firing by armed elements. The deceased include three officials from AJK Police Rawalakot and one member of the Frontier Constabulary.
Several other security personnel were also injured during the incidents.
The spokesperson further claimed that three members of the prohibited Action Committee lost their lives due to indiscriminate firing by their own associates, while several others were injured.
Officials noted that the figure includes individuals killed during incidents on the night of June 5 and 6.
Police said the miscreants have been dispersed and law and order has been restored. Most highways in the region have reopened for traffic, while markets and commercial centers are functioning according to local norms.
Authorities said public life is gradually returning to normal across affected areas.
Police praise public cooperation
The AJK Police spokesperson commended the people of Rawalakot and other districts for rejecting the protest call and supporting peace. He said Azad Kashmir Police and other law enforcement agencies are performing their duties effectively to protect lives, property and the writ of the state.
The spokesperson added that the services rendered by police and security agencies during the operation are commendable.
The police spokesperson announced that funeral prayers for the security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty will be offered soon with full official honours and respect.
Officials paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the fallen personnel during efforts to restore law and order.
Legal action underway against suspects
Authorities said legal proceedings are continuing against armed and violent members of the prohibited Action Committee. The police reiterated their commitment to bringing those responsible for spreading unrest and chaos to justice.
Officials stated that leaders and workers involved in violent activities would face legal consequences.
Public urged to avoid rumours
The AJK Police appealed to the public not to participate in any activities associated with the prohibited Action Committee or its affiliated groups.
Citizens were also urged not to believe rumours, misinformation or misleading propaganda.
The spokesperson advised people to rely only on information issued through authentic official sources, adding that factual updates on the situation would continue to be shared with the public.
