Chinese Consul General Sun Yan has called for the establishment of a “China-Pakistan Security Partnership”, saying the initiative would play a key role in strengthening military cooperation, counter-terrorism efforts and security measures between the two countries.
He made the remarks at a ceremony held at the residence of Institute of International Relations and Media Research Chairman Muhammad Mehdi to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Sohail Warraich, Salim Bokhari and Muhammad Mehdi also addressed the gathering.
Sun Yan said both countries had agreed to accelerate cooperation on infrastructure, industrial and connectivity projects under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He added that collaboration in agriculture, technology and workforce training would also be expanded.
He said two Pakistani astronauts were undergoing specialised training in China and that one Pakistani astronaut would become the first foreign national to participate in an initial mission to China’s space station.
The consul general also reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and its fight against terrorism.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid said Pakistan-China friendship had remained strong and dependable through every era.
Muhammad Mehdi said relations between the two countries had progressed beyond traditional diplomacy and had evolved into a lasting partnership. He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China had created new opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
Sohail Warraich and Salim Bokhari stressed the need to benefit from Chinese agricultural technology to increase cotton production.
Speakers termed the event as an important milestone marking 75 years of Pakistan-China friendship and the beginning of a new era of mutual cooperation.
Among those present were Hafeezullah Niazi, Naveed Chaudhry, Safdar Khan, Punjab Assembly members Imran Javed and Rana Rashid Minhas, Supreme Court Executive Committee member Amjad Shirazi, and Punjab Revenue Secretary Shafqat Ullah Mushtaq.
