Stormy winds and heavy rain caused widespread destruction across parts of Pakistan, killing people, injuring dozens and disrupting power supply and traffic in several districts.
Authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh issued emergency alerts as rescue teams cleared roads, shifted the injured to hospitals and assessed further damage.
Two dead, 31 injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority said two people died and 31 others were injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. The injured included eight children and seven women, according to the PDMA report.
Incidents were reported in Bannu, Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera, while officials said more damage was feared and details were still being collected.
Bannu recorded the highest number of incidents in the province. One person died and 28 others were injured after roofs and walls collapsed due to strong winds and rain.
The injured in Bannu included seven children and seven women, according to the PDMA spokesperson.
Lightning kills one in Peshawar
One person died after being struck by lightning in Peshawar, according to the PDMA report. In Nowshera, one person was injured when an electric pole fell.
In Charsadda, two people, including a child, were injured when a wall collapsed.
Rescue 1122 said 15 people were injured in Peshawar and surrounding areas after walls, solar panels, trees, poles and electric wires fell during strong winds. Most accidents were reported in Malik Tariq Qila, Kohat Road, Chamkani, Matni, Baksho Pul, Azakhel, Wahid Ghari and Gur Mandi.
Trees and walls also fell in Governor House, Dalla Zak Road, Mamo Khatki and several other areas. Rescue workers provided first aid on the spot and shifted seriously injured people to hospitals.
Rescue teams removed fallen trees, solar panels, tin sheets and other obstacles from roads. Several blocked roads were reopened for traffic, helping restore normal traffic flow in affected areas.
Rain, strong winds likely until June 5
The PDMA said the current spell of rain and strong winds is expected to continue intermittently until June 5. Authorities also issued an alert for possible glacial lake outburst floods and flash floods in upper areas.
The warning covers Upper Chitral, Upper Dir, Upper Swat and Upper Kohistan due to rising temperatures.
Sindh storms kill at least 15, injure over 100
Dust storms and strong winds wreaked havoc across several districts of Sindh. According to the PDMA, at least 15 people have died and more than 100 have been injured in districts including Kashmore, Nawabshah, Qambar Shahdadkot, Dharki and Ghotki.
The PDMA declared an emergency and issued an alert across Sindh.
Officials earlier said nine people died and 210 were injured in storm and heavy rain incidents in Sindh. Four people died in Nawabshah, one in Dadu and four in Qazi Ahmed, according to initial reports.
Later reports from Nawabshah said four people, including two women, died in different incidents, while more than 40 were injured.
People’s Medical Hospital declared an emergency, and additional doctors were summoned. Signboards, solar panels, transformers, electric wires and trees fell in several areas.
Qazi Ahmed reports major destruction
Qazi Ahmed was also badly affected by the dust storm and rain. Ten people, including four women, died when roofs, walls and trees collapsed on houses, according to local reports.
More than 50 people were injured due to rain and strong winds, hospital sources said.
Dozens of poles from more than 10 electricity feeders fell, while hundreds of solar panels were damaged, causing losses worth millions of rupees.
In Ghotki, one person died and 50 others were injured, with 10 reported to be in critical condition, according to PDMA. In Dharki, two people died and seven were injured.
In Qambar Shahdadkot, one person died and several others were injured.
Dadu district also reported damage from strong winds and storms. Two more people died, raising the district toll to four.
A woman died after the wall of a house collapsed in nearby village Chhani Machko, while Asif, son of Hakim Lashari and a resident of Pat Sharif, also died, rescue officials said.
The number of injured in Dadu reached 160, while the deputy commissioner said a district-wide damage survey was underway.
Naushahro Feroze and Kandyaro report injuries
In Naushahro Feroze district, a woman died and 12 people were injured due to stormy winds. The injured were shifted to hospital, while solar panels and signboards fell at different places.
In Kandyaro, five people were injured due to strong winds.
Baban Shah Chowk and Chaman Bazaar were submerged, with three feet of water accumulating in some areas.
In Khairpur Nathan Shah, four people were injured after a wall collapsed during the storm. Two children and a woman were injured in Rehmatullah Colony.
Khuda Bakhsh Laghari suffered fractures in both legs and was referred to Larkana in serious condition. Solar panels, trees and electricity poles also fell, affecting the power system and creating difficulties for citizens.
Storm damage reported in Punjab, AJK
Storms and rain also caused damage in other parts of the country, including Islamabad, Punjab and Azad Kashmir. In Rojhan, two people died and one was seriously injured when solar panels fell during a severe storm.
In Rahim Yar Khan, one person died and five others were injured when the roof of a mosque courtyard collapsed. In Shabqadar, a woman was injured when the wall of a house collapsed on Machni Road.
A 14-year-old child died after being struck by lightning in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir.
Rohri was hit by severe storm, thunder, heavy rain and hail, disrupting normal life. Trees fell at several locations and power supply was affected.
Torrential rain also hit Haripur, Ghazi and Khanpur, where low-lying areas were flooded. Power supply was disrupted after several feeders tripped.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain is likely to continue for two more days. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious, avoid fallen wires and debris, and follow official safety advisories during the ongoing weather spell.
