Noted Pakistani actor Fahad Mustafa has urged the Punjab government to reconsider the closing hours of malls and cinemas, saying the restrictions are limiting audience access to newly released films.
In a letter to Punjab senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Dusri Biwi star said the current closing times were affecting cinemas operating within shopping malls and hindering the reach of films released during the period.
“Respected Madam, I hope you are well. I would like to humbly request your consideration regarding the current closing timings of malls and cinemas. Since most cinemas operate within malls, the early closure is affecting recently released films that are relying on this period to reach audiences,” Mustafa wrote.

He said a modest extension in cinema operating hours could increase ticket sales and overall revenue for cinemas and film distributors, support employment in the exhibition and hospitality sectors, and provide greater convenience for audiences who attend screenings later in the evening.
Mustafa also praised the Punjab government’s support for the film industry, including initiatives such as Film City, and said a limited relaxation in operating hours would be welcomed by filmmakers, exhibitors and cinema-goers.
“Thank you for your time and continued support,” he added in the letter.
It is pertinent to note that the appeal came after the government reinforced smart lockdown measures following the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
