The Sindh Education Department has prepared a strict policy for schools where the number of teachers is higher than student enrollment, with surplus teachers expected to be offered early retirement through a golden handshake scheme.
Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah said the final number of teachers and students will be determined after the facial recognition process is completed.
Under the proposed policy, action will be taken in schools where teacher strength is higher while the number of enrolled students is comparatively low. The department plans to identify additional teachers through a verification process before implementing the new measures.
Officials believe the policy will help manage staffing levels more effectively and reduce unnecessary financial pressure on the education system.
Facial recognition to confirm data
Education Minister Sardar Shah said the exact number of teachers and students will be known only after the facial recognition of both teachers and students is completed.
Once the data is verified, teachers identified as surplus will be given the option to voluntarily accept a golden handshake and retire early. The minister said additional teachers will be allowed to sit at home after choosing the voluntary retirement package.
Headmasters to get recruitment powers
The Education Department is also preparing to transfer recruitment authority for lower-level school staff to headmasters.
According to Sardar Shah, headmasters will be empowered to recruit chowkidars, gardeners and naib qasids at the school level.
The minister said the department had previously faced the burden of additional recruitments, which increased administrative and financial pressure.
Officials believe reducing surplus teachers and extra employees will also make a difference in the education budget. The proposed reforms are aimed at improving resource management, controlling unnecessary spending and ensuring that staffing matches actual student needs in schools.
