The top religious leadership of Pakistan’s Christian community has announced the conferment of the Global Peacemaker Award on Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir in recognition of his diplomatic efforts, leadership and commitment to peace.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the Christian community’s highest representative body, where religious leaders also paid tribute to Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue, stability and peace amid growing global challenges.
According to Falbous Christopher, a meeting of the top Christian religious leadership synod was held at a local church in Lahore.
The gathering was attended by the President Bishop of the Church of Pakistan, Archbishop Dr. Azad Marshall, moderators of the church, representatives of the Christian Lawyers Association, MPAs, and Falbous Christopher, chairman of the Punjab Assembly Standing Committee on Minority Affairs.
Christian community role in national development
Addressing the synod, Archbishop Dr Marshall said the assembly represents the highest body of the Christian community in Pakistan and conducted a detailed review of its responsibilities toward the country. He emphasized that minorities in Pakistan, particularly the Christian community, have never been an afterthought.
According to Archbishop Marshall, the Christian community stood alongside the founders of Pakistan and played a significant role in the country's establishment, development, education, healthcare, public service and nation-building efforts.
The archbishop noted that the current era is marked by global uncertainty, regional tensions and complex international challenges. He said Pakistan has played a constructive role in promoting dialogue, stability and peace during difficult times.
Archbishop Marshall also appreciated the leadership and services of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and particularly Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Tribute paid to Field Marshal Munir
Speaking about the army chief, Archbishop Marshall said Field Marshal Munir demonstrated extraordinary courage, steadfast leadership, strategic vision and commendable diplomatic skills in creating opportunities for peace under extremely challenging circumstances.
He added that the field marshal’s commitment to national security, regional stability and responsible state leadership reflects the qualities of an exceptional leader.
The Church of Pakistan’s highest representative assembly also paid tribute to all individuals working tirelessly for peace, justice and national harmony.
Global Peacemaker Award announced
In recognition of what the synod described as distinguished leadership, commitment to peace and service to humanity, the Christian leadership formally announced the Global Peacemaker Award for Field Marshal Munir.
Archbishop Marshall said the award symbolizes the Christian community’s appreciation, prayers and hope that the values of peace, justice, reconciliation and mutual respect will continue to guide Pakistan and the international community.
Resolution submitted in Punjab Assembly
Falbous Christopher revealed that a resolution has also been submitted in the Punjab Assembly to pay tribute to efforts aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s defence and acknowledging successful diplomatic initiatives for the country.
He described Field Marshal Munir as a symbol of Pakistan’s stability and defence, highlighting his role in safeguarding national interests.
