According to the initial report, a collision occurred between a UAE-flagged container ship and a Liberia-flagged cable-laying vessel. Preliminary findings indicate that one vessel, which was stationary at the time, was struck from behind by the other ship.
The report suggests that negligence on the part of the captains of both vessels may have contributed to the accident. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the cable-laying vessel, MV Neva, disabled.
Following the incident, MV Neva was towed to port. Port officials said the damaged vessel could be repaired at Karachi Shipyard. Insurance representatives will also take part in the investigation to determine the cause of the accident and assess the extent of the damages.
MV Papu is currently standing at the OPL, according to port officials.
Investigation underway
KPT Chairman Rear Admiral (retd) Shahid Ahmed said the incident is being investigated. Authorities are examining how the collision occurred and assessing the damage caused to the vessels.
Further action will be taken after the inquiry is completed.

The minister confirmed no loss of life or injuries were reported in the collision involving two foreign vessels. According to him, the accident occurred on the night of May 28 due to negligence on the part of the ships’ masters.
The affected cable-laying vessel was safely brought to port with the assistance of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) tugboats. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact causes of the incident, the minister added.
Chaudhry said the government and all relevant agencies remain fully mobilized to ensure maritime safety and security.
