Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated across Pakistan today with religious devotion, enthusiasm and spiritual fervour, as Muslims offered Eid prayers and began sacrificing animals in accordance with the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).
Large Eid prayer gatherings were held in mosques, Eidgahs, open grounds, towns and villages across the country. The day began with special prayers in mosques for the well-being of the Muslim world and the peace, progress, prosperity and stability of Pakistan.
In Eid sermons, clerics highlighted the philosophy of sacrifice, selflessness, brotherhood and unity of Muslims. Special prayers were also offered for national security, prosperity and stability.
Millions of Muslims are sacrificing animals to follow the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). The distribution of meat among deserving and needy people is also underway, reflecting the spirit of compassion, sharing and sacrifice.
Federal and provincial governments have made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. Local administrations in different cities and towns have also arranged for the disposal of offal and other waste during the Eid days.
Lahore witnesses major Eid gatherings
In Lahore, bright Eid-ul-Azha gatherings were held in small and large mosques, where millions offered prayers and special supplications were made for the security of Pakistan, unity of the Muslim world and elevation of the ranks of martyrs.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered Eid prayers in Model Town, Lahore, where PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz was also present. After the prayer, the PM extended Eid greetings to citizens and the Muslim world.
The largest Eid gathering in Lahore was held at Badshahi Mosque, where the chairman of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, led the Eid prayers. The sermon focused on unity of the Muslim world, national stability and brotherhood.
Spiritual scenes were also witnessed at Data Darbar, Jamia Naeemiyah, Bagh-e-Jinnah and other mosques across the city. After Eid prayers, citizens began performing the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).
Eid gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan
A large Eid-ul-Azha gathering was also held at the historic Minar-e-Pakistan grounds in Lahore. Renowned religious scholar and chairman of the Quran and Sunnah Movement, Allama Hafiz Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer, led the Eid prayers and delivered the sermon.
In his sermon, Allama Zaheer said Eid-ul-Azha teaches that true sacrifice is the sacrifice of one’s desires, ego and self.
After the prayers, special prayers were offered for the security and stability of Pakistan, the martyrs of the Pakistan Army and unity of the Muslim world. Citizens embraced one another and exchanged Eid greetings.
Eid in Azad Jammu and Kashmir
Eid-ul-Azha is also being celebrated with religious devotion and respect in Azad Kashmir. Large Eid gatherings were held in various cities, while Eid prayers were offered at two dozen places in Muzaffarabad.
The largest gathering in Muzaffarabad was held at the central Eidgah. After the prayers, supplications were offered for the success and salvation of the Muslim world.
A large Eid prayer gathering was also held at the central Aman Bargah.
Parvez Elahi offers Eid prayers in Gujrat
In Gujrat, former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi offered Eid prayers at Jhandewal Mosque. Party workers accompanying him also offered Eid prayers and prayed for national security.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi hold hundreds of Eid prayers
Eid-ul-Azha prayers were offered at hundreds of places in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The largest gathering was held at Faisal Mosque in Islamabad, where thousands of people from the twin cities and surrounding areas participated.
At Faisal Mosque, thousands of men, women and children offered prayers under the leadership of Chief Imam Dr Muhammad Ilyas.
Dr Ilyas prayed for the glory of Pakistan and the Muslim world. Special prayers were also offered for the resolution of the problems faced by oppressed Muslims in occupied Kashmir and Palestine.
Supplications were also made for the success of Pakistan’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.
Extraordinary security arrangements were made at Faisal Mosque, with hundreds of police and Rangers personnel deployed at entrances for checking.
More than 7,000 police personnel were put on duty across Islamabad, while security was monitored through Safe City cameras and modern technology.
Eid prayers in Rawalpindi
In Rawalpindi, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi offered Eid prayers at Eidgah Sharif. Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed offered Eid-ul-Azha prayers at Liaquat Bagh as per tradition.
Hundreds of small and large Eid prayer gatherings were held across the city. Thousands of police personnel were deployed so people could celebrate Eid peacefully.
In Khyber, Eid-ul-Azha prayers were offered at the protest camp of the victims of Tirah Valley Maidan. A large number of Tirah victims, political workers and social activists participated in the Eid prayers.
Karachi marks Eid with major congregations
Like the rest of the country, Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated with religious fervour in Karachi. Large Eid prayer gatherings were held in major mosques, Imambargahs, Eidgahs and open grounds across the city.
Eid prayers were offered at various places, including Sabeel Wali Mosque and Memon Mosque. The largest gathering was held at Polo Ground, where citizens, political and social leaders, members of the business community and foreign diplomats offered Eid prayers.
On the occasion, the Karachi mayor congratulated the people of Karachi on Eid-ul-Azha.
After prayers, Muslims began sacrificing animals, including cows, goats, sheep and camels, for the pleasure of God. The process of sacrifice will continue until the third day of Eid.
Peshawar Eid prayers held at Charsadda Road Eidgah
In Peshawar, a large Eid-ul-Azha gathering was held at the main Eidgah on Charsadda Road. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Khatib Maulana Tayyab Qureshi led the Eid prayers. A large number of citizens and political figures attended the congregation.
In his sermon, the chief khatib said Pakistan is facing terrorism and declared that Pakistan is the nation’s red line. He added that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stand shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistan Army.
