A fire caused by a drone strike broke out in an electrical generator outside the inner security perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region, Emirati authorities said on Sunday.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office said emergency teams responded swiftly to the incident, which occurred outside the plant’s internal protective zone.
Officials said no injuries were reported and radiological safety standards remained unaffected.
Authorities added that the fire did not compromise the safety of the nuclear facility or the operational readiness of its critical systems. All units at the power plant continued to function normally.
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) said all precautionary measures had been implemented following the incident.
No details were released regarding the source of the drone strike.
Regional tensions have intensified since the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran in February. Tehran later carried out retaliatory strikes against Israel and US allies in the Gulf, including the United Arab Emirates, and also moved to close the Strait of Hormuz.
