Music streaming platform Spotify has introduced a redesigned logo as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, but the update has divided users and sparked widespread criticism online.
The company has rolled out a new visual identity that transforms its iconic green branding into a shimmering, textured disco ball-style design.
While the familiar three soundwave lines remain, the refreshed look gives the app a more festive appearance, tied to Spotify’s global anniversary campaign.
The redesign is part of Spotify’s 20th anniversary celebration titled “Spotify 20: Your Party of the Year(s)”.
According to the company, the updated logo is intended to reflect a party-themed visual style and is not confirmed as a permanent change.
Users react with backlash online
The new design quickly triggered reactions on social media platform X, where many users expressed frustration and confusion over the updated icon.
Some users complained that the new logo looks like a screen glitch or ongoing update rather than a design change.
One user wrote, “The new Spotify app icon looks like it’s constantly updating, I can’t anymore.”
Another commented, “We prefer the old Spotify logo over the new one. The new logo is not giving the lit vibes at all.”
A third user added, “I absolutely hate Spotify’s updated logo. It makes it look like there’s a problem with my screen.
Spotify has not officially confirmed whether the disco ball-inspired design is permanent or part of a limited-time campaign.
The uncertainty has added to user confusion, with many questioning whether the update will remain after the anniversary celebrations end.
