Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that the small and medium-sized enterprises had the capacity to strengthen economic growth and increase exports.
Chairing a review meeting in Islamabad on the development of small and medium-sized industries, the prime minister has termed the roadmap prepared by SMEDA and the Ministry of Industries as satisfactory.
PM Shehbaz has also sought an implementation plan containing achievable targets within a specified timeframe.
During the meeting, SMEDA officials briefed the prime minister on progress regarding the implementation of earlier directives.
PM Shehbaz directed authorities to take measures for the provision of easy loans to small and medium-sized enterprises.
He instructed that processing sectors linked to agriculture should be granted the status of small and medium-sized industries.
The prime minister welcomed measures aimed at increasing women’s participation in small and medium-sized enterprises.
He directed officials to make steps more effective for women’s access to easy loans and support for exports of their products.
The meeting reviewed initiatives relating to industrial development, financing facilities and export promotion for the SME sector.
