Apple’s next big software update could significantly change how users interact with the iPhone Camera app.
According to reports, iOS 27 will bring deeper customization, AI-driven tools, and a new Siri experience.
The update aims to make photography and system navigation more flexible and intelligent.
Apple is planning a major overhaul of the iPhone Camera app in iOS 27, making the interface far more customizable than before.
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, users will soon be able to modify on-screen controls using a widget-like system.
The update is expected to keep familiar default controls such as Night Mode, Flash, Live Photos, and format/resolution settings. However, users will no longer be limited to this layout.
Instead, an “advanced” control set will allow users to choose which tools appear on the interface, giving more flexibility to photographers and casual users alike.
Widgets coming to iPhone camera interface
One of the biggest changes is the introduction of widgets inside the Camera app interface.
Each capture mode—such as Photo, Portrait, or Video—will reportedly have its own set of adjustable widgets. For example, Photo mode may include controls like depth-of-field and exposure adjustments.
Apple is also shifting the menu that displays all camera options. Instead of appearing in the top corner, it will move closer to the shutter button to make it easier to access during shooting.
This redesign is aimed at improving usability while keeping the camera experience fast and intuitive.
The Camera app is also expected to gain a new Siri-powered mode focused on AI capabilities.
This feature will reportedly rely on Apple’s “Visual Intelligence” system, allowing users to perform tasks such as translating text in real time or identifying objects like plants directly through the camera.
The update suggests a deeper integration of AI into everyday iPhone features, especially photography and visual search tools.
Siri overhaul and system-wide changes
The report also provides new details about a broader Siri redesign coming in iOS 27.
The upgraded assistant is expected to appear in the Dynamic Island and introduce a system-wide search feature activated by swiping down from the top center of the screen.
Siri may also gain a chatbot-style conversation mode, along with AI-powered web search capabilities.
For the first time, Siri is also expected to become a standalone app, complete with a history of past interactions, marking a major shift in Apple’s assistant strategy.
Beyond the Camera and Siri upgrades, several other Apple apps are also expected to receive improvements.
The Weather app will reportedly include a new “Conditions” panel that lets users switch between temperature, rain, and wind data more easily.
Meanwhile, the Image Playground tool is said to be completely redesigned, with the ability to generate more realistic images.
Additional system changes may include undo and redo controls for home screen customization, along with a refreshed keyboard animation.
