Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
Details emerged on Wednesday that the two ministers exchanged views on diplomatic efforts for peace in the region and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi said diplomatic engagement among regional states should continue, adding that dialogue could prevent an escalation of tensions.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan also spoke with Araghchi on Wednesday.
“During the call, he discussed the latest regional developments and efforts made to maintain the security and stability of the region,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Saudi Arabia has repeatedly called for resolving regional issues through diplomacy and has expressed support for Pakistan’s mediation between the United States and Iran.
Moreover, Riyadh has also voiced deep concern over the ongoing military tensions in the region, urging all parties to exercise restraint and reduce tensions. A Saudi cabinet meeting, chaired in Jeddah by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, reviewed the regional situation and stressed the need for de-escalation.
According to media reports, the cabinet reiterated support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts to help resolve the dispute and avoid instability. The meeting also underlined the importance of ensuring safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry has reaffirmed support for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, calling for a political solution that would prevent further escalation.
Saudi media reported that the cabinet also approved a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Saudi Ministry of Justice and Pakistan’s Ministry of Law.
