At the United Nations, Pakistan has issued a strong warning over rising tensions with India, particularly concerning water-related disputes.
The statement underscores Islamabad’s stance on sovereignty while signaling willingness for diplomatic engagement.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, highlighted what he described as India’s “illegal and unilateral actions,” warning they pose a serious threat to regional peace and security.
Speaking on May 2, 2025, the envoy said Pakistan had already exposed what it believes are India’s “nefarious intentions” before any escalation took place.
Warning over water disputes
In a clear and firm message, Pakistan stated that any attempt by India to use water as a tool of pressure would cross a red line.
The Pakistani delegate emphasized that any kind of water aggression would be treated as a declaration of war, signaling the gravity Islamabad attaches to the issue.
Pakistan’s position on rising tensions
Despite the strong language, Pakistan reiterated that it does not seek an increase in tensions with India.
According to the envoy, this position has been consistently communicated “at all levels,” reflecting a preference for stability over confrontation.
At the same time, Pakistan made it clear that it remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity if required.
The statement balances diplomatic restraint with a firm commitment to national defense.
Pakistan also expressed willingness to accept mediation through the United Nations to address ongoing tensions.
This move signals Islamabad’s preference for a rules-based, multilateral approach rather than unilateral actions.
