A strong weather system has entered Pakistan, bringing warnings of heavy rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms over the next three days.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for multiple regions. Authorities have urged citizens to take precautionary measures amid possible flooding risks.
According to reports, a powerful weather system has entered the country and is expected to remain active until May 5. During this period, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and hailstorms may affect several regions.
The NDMA has confirmed that the situation could intensify in the coming days.
Regions likely to be affected
Rain is expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
In Punjab, areas including Murree, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot and Faisalabad are likely to experience rain and stormy conditions.
Cloud activity is also expected across multiple districts in KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
The NDMA has warned that hailstorms may occur in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the weather system.
Strong winds and thunderstorms may also accompany rainfall in several regions, increasing the risk of damage.
Flood and landslide threats
Authorities have raised concerns about the melting of glaciers in northern areas, which could lead to glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs).
Heavy rainfall may also trigger flooding in rivers and canals, especially in vulnerable areas.
The NDMA has warned that landslides in mountainous regions could block roads and disrupt transportation networks. Travel conditions may become difficult in affected areas.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the alert period. The NDMA has also urged people to take precautionary steps to protect livestock and valuables.
Authorities have stressed the importance of following local administration instructions to ensure safety.
