A significant development in the country’s maritime history has come to light at Karachi Port, where for the first time a fully transshipment general cargo vessel berthed, setting a new milestone.
According to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the vessel arrived carrying various types of cargo, an event being regarded as a major achievement for Pakistan’s maritime and commercial sectors.
Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar, in a statement, said the arrival of the transshipment general cargo vessel marks an important advance for Pakistan’s maritime sector. He said that in the past only container transshipment had taken place at Karachi Port. With the handling of general cargo, bulk, break-bulk and vehicles, new trade prospects have emerged.
He added that Karachi Port is rapidly transforming into a key transshipment hub in the region, further strengthening its role in linking global trade routes. This is the first time a complete transshipment cargo vessel has arrived at Karachi Port in Pakistan.
