Early leaks surrounding Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra hint at a major camera overhaul. The flagship device may drop one of its existing lenses while introducing new imaging technology.
If true, it could mark one of Samsung’s biggest camera shifts in years.
According to popular leaker Ice Universe, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may completely ditch its 3x telephoto lens.
This move appears to target what many consider the weakest link in Samsung’s current camera setup.
Current setup shows a weak spot
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra currently features a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide lens, a 50MP 5x telephoto, and a 10MP 3x telephoto.
Among these, the 3x sensor has often been seen as less competitive, which could explain its potential removal.
Upgrades expected across the board
Leaks suggest the Galaxy S27 Ultra will introduce a “new generation” ultrawide camera.
Interestingly, this upgraded ultrawide sensor is expected to debut first on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.
In addition, Samsung is reportedly working on improved versions of the main camera sensor and a new front-facing camera.
While the 3x telephoto may be removed, the device could enhance its 5x zoom capabilities.
The leak also hints that variable aperture technology has an “80%” chance of being included, potentially improving performance in different lighting conditions.
The information is based on early internal sources, meaning Samsung’s final decisions could still change.
The company is also said to be considering broader upgrades for the Galaxy S27 lineup, though these may depend on internal challenges like “RAMageddon.”
