Fresh leaks around the Xiaomi 17T series suggest Xiaomi is pushing its “affordable flagship” strategy further—but at a cost. While the phones look more premium on paper, the upgrades may come with trade-offs in price and weight.
According to a report by Tech Advisor, Xiaomi is preparing to launch the 17T lineup as a more budget-friendly alternative to its flagship range.
However, the new models appear to blur the line between mid-range and premium devices, both in pricing and specifications.
Chipset upgrades across the lineup
The regular Xiaomi 17T is expected to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17T Pro will reportedly step up to the more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor.
This higher-end chip has already been seen delivering strong performance in devices like the Oppo Find X9 Pro, suggesting a noticeable boost for the Pro variant.
Bigger batteries, heavier phones
One of the standout upgrades is battery size.
- Xiaomi 17T: 6500mAh
- Xiaomi 17T Pro: 7000mAh
While these larger batteries promise longer usage, they also make the devices heavier—around 200g for the standard model and 219g for the Pro.
This added weight could impact comfort, especially for users who prefer lighter phones.
Price jump raises eyebrows
The leaked pricing suggests:
- Xiaomi 17T: €749
- Xiaomi 17T Pro: €999
This marks a significant increase compared to the previous generation:
- Xiaomi 15T launched at €649
- Xiaomi 15T Pro launched at €749
The shift reflects Xiaomi’s attempt to position the T-series closer to premium territory while still remaining below its flagship lineup.
Traditionally, Xiaomi unveils its T-series around September or October.
However, new reports suggest the company may move the launch forward—possibly as early as May.
Given that the Xiaomi 17 series only recently launched globally in March (after debuting in China last year), an earlier release could initially be limited to China.
