Qatari Foreign Office spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said on Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz should not be used as a weapon.
During a press briefing, Ansari said there is no justification for obstructing maritime passage in the strategic waterway.
He added that Qatar supports mediation efforts by Pakistan between the United States and Iran. Ansari stated that Iran should separate the Strait of Hormuz issue from its nuclear programme during negotiations.
Ansari said that Qatar would support a comprehensive agreement aimed at ending the wider dispute.
