The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has issued an official statement on the latest eye treatment of PTI Founder Imran Khan, confirming that he was brought to PIMS last night for follow-up care.
According to the hospital administration, the fourth dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection was administered during a day-care procedure, after the patient’s consent was obtained. Earlier reporting also identified Dr Nadeem Qureshi and Dr Arif as part of the specialist team involved in the PTI founder’s eye care.
According to the PIMS press release, Imran Khan was brought to the hospital last night for follow-up eye treatment. The hospital said he was given the fourth dose of anti-VEGF intravitreal injection as part of his ongoing treatment.
PIMS stated that the patient’s consent was taken before the medical procedure.
Procedure completed in operation theatre
The PIMS administration said ophthalmologists examined the patient and found him medically stable. According to the statement, the patient’s optical coherence tomography showed clinical improvement.
The procedure was completed in the operation theatre with the consent of the PTI founder. PIMS said the procedure was performed as a day-care surgery. The hospital administration added that the patient remained medically stable before, during and after the procedure.
After the process was completed, he was discharged with further care, follow-up instructions and medical documentation.
Sources said the procedure to administer the fourth injection was carried out by a medical team comprising Dr Muhammad Arif and Dr Nadeem Qureshi. According to sources, doctors declared that Imran Khan's eyesight was better than before.
The medical report also stated that the vision and overall health of the eye had improved.
Third injection given a month ago
Sources said the former prime minister had received the third injection in his eye around one month ago. The fourth injection was administered for further improvement in the eye condition.
Sources added that the PTI founder’s overall health was also found to be good. They added that his fitness report has been prepared. The PIMS medical report will be sent to the Adiala Jail administration.
After the medical examination and procedure, the PTI founder was transferred back to Adiala Jail.
