United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the immediate reopening of the vital global passage.
An emergency meeting was held at the United Nations over the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, where the Secretary-General said there should be no toll tax and that trade must be allowed to resume, so that the global economy can breathe.
Guterres said the crisis is contributing to rising inflation.

Earlier, Guterres has welcomed the announcement by US President Donald Trump to extend the ceasefire.
The UN Secretary-General stated that Pakistan’s efforts at mediation are fully supported, adding that there is hope the talks will pave the way for a comprehensive and lasting solution, marking an important step towards de-escalation.
Guterres said that an opportunity has now emerged for diplomacy between Iran and the United States, urging all parties to respect the ceasefire and refrain from provocation.
