The Kingdom of Bahrain has revoked the citizenship of dozens of people in a major security-related decision.
The move comes amid heightened regional tensions following reported attacks linked to Iran during the ongoing conflict.
The Interior Ministry of Bahrain announced that 69 individuals, along with their family members, have had their citizenship stripped.
According to the ministry, the decision was taken after the individuals were found to have “expressed sympathy for and glorified” Iran’s actions during the ongoing regional conflict.
Allegations of supporting wartime actions
In a statement shared on X, authorities said the affected individuals had shown support for what it described as “hostile acts” carried out by Iran during the war.
The ministry did not provide further personal details but confirmed that the revocation also extended to family members of those involved.
The decision comes amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region following reported strikes involving Iran and retaliatory actions linked to the broader conflict involving the United States and Israel.
Bahrain has previously been among Gulf states targeted in regional hostilities, according to official statements and past reports.
Authorities across the Gulf have increased scrutiny of political expression and perceived support for opposing sides in regional conflicts.
The latest move by Bahrain reflects the ongoing sensitivity surrounding public commentary and political alignment during the crisis.
