US President Donald Trump has reacted to the shooting incident during a dinner at the White House, saying that had a large secure ballroom been built on the premises, the incident would not have occurred.
In a statement posted on social media, President Donald Trump said the incident that took place last night was linked to the long-standing view, held over the past 150 years by military officials, the Secret Service, law enforcement agencies and successive presidents, that a large, secure ballroom should be constructed inside the White House.
President Trump has said that if the military top-secret ballroom, currently under construction at the White House, had been in place, the incident would not have happened. He added that the construction should be completed as soon as possible.
Donald Trump has termed a legal case filed against the construction of the secure ballroom as “ridiculous”, saying it had been brought by a woman with no legal standing, and called for the case to be dismissed without delay.
The US President has stressed that no obstruction should be allowed in the construction of the secure ballroom inside the White House, noting that the project is already included in the budget and is well ahead of schedule.
It is noted that a shooting incident took place during a dinner in honour of media representatives at the White House in Washington. President Trump remained safe, while the attacker was detained. The acting US Attorney General said there is suspicion that the attacker’s target was President Trump.
