Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Sunday has taken strict notice of worsening traffic chaos in Lahore.
She has ordered immediate enforcement measures to improve discipline across major cities. The move aims to make key highways model routes with zero tolerance for violations.
In a high-level meeting on traffic management, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed serious concern over the growing disorder on roads in Lahore and other major cities.
She directed authorities to take immediate steps to improve the overall traffic system and ensure strict enforcement of rules.
Massive enforcement data shared
During the briefing, officials revealed that more than 500,000 traffic challans were issued in the last six months.
Additionally, over 100,000 vehicles were seized due to violations, highlighting the scale of enforcement already underway.
The Chief Minister ordered strict implementation of lane and line discipline across major cities, including Lahore.
She assigned the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore the responsibility of achieving clear and visible improvement in traffic flow and compliance.
Smart monitoring plan
It was also decided in the meeting to transform major highways of Lahore into model roads for better traffic management.
Authorities will monitor violations through cameras installed on mobile vehicles, strengthening surveillance and enforcement.
Zero tolerance for violations
The chief minister announced a zero-tolerance policy on lane violations, one-way driving, roadside parking, and other traffic breaches.
Under the new measures, motorcycles found zigzag driving will be detained in police stations for three days.
Officials were also instructed to take strict action against underage driving, making it mandatory to eliminate such violations from roads.
